I had the chance to spend a wonderful month in the beautiful city of Hamburg, in Germany. I really liked Hamburg, not only because there are many things to see, but also for its greenery. It is a big city but there are still many parks and many nice walks to have around Alster Lake, which is right in the heart of the city. I like nature a lot and I did not want to end up in too big a city. Hamburg is a particularly pleasant city to live in. Moreover it is well connected by public transports, whether it be the metro, buses or trains.

Having recently become gluten intolerant, I was a bit afraid to go abroad and I mostly wondered what I was going to eat. ESL advised me to live in a shared flat so I could cook for myself – which was perfect. I want to highlight the efficiency and the speed of ESL’s LTC’s. This agency is really well organized and I strongly recommend it! I really liked all the travel documentation I received before leaving (information about the city, touristic activities, maps of public transports, etc.).

The Colón Language Center was also very well organized and I was warmly welcomed. I decided to follow an intensive course, which means I had classes every morning from 8.50am to 1.00pm. It was ideal for me because I was free in the afternoons to visit the city and to do my homework! Moreover, the school organized excursions every week, which allowed me to get to know other students from the school and to discover beautiful places (Travenmüde, Schwerin, Blankenese etc.). Furthermore, the school also organizes once per month a cinema night, which allowed me to improve my oral understanding in an interactive way. Every Thursday, students were invited to enjoy a Stammtisch, during which we met at a small restaurant to have a drink and practice the language. Anyway, it was really great and I recommend this school. Nonetheless, I was surprised to meet so many Swiss people! That was a bit annoying because I heard a lot of French. 6 out of 14 students were Swiss. As I wanted to learn German, I avoided being with the Swiss or I spoke German to them. Many young people also came from Spain. I liked the multicultural aspect of the students from the school. There were people from everywhere (Spain, Italy, England, Ireland, China, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Brazil etc.), which allowed me to discover other mentalities. Anyway, I came back to Switzerland with a lot of memories and a lot of new friends too. A month is a bit short to really learn German, I recommend 3 months minimum. A piece of advice: don’t hesitate to go and discover new horizons!

I took great pleasure from attending classes at the Colon Language Center. The lessons and the teachers were great and I made great progress in little time. The activities organised by the school were very interesting and allowed me to meet other people. Staying in a shared apartment was a beautiful experience and I enjoyed it very much. Hamburg is a pleasant city to live in, which is both beautiful and dynamic. I strongly recommend this school.

After spending 6 months in Hamburg, I am coming back to Switzerland with only good memories! Thanks to the perfect organisation, my stay turned out to be a real success: from the advice I received from the ESL consultants in Switzerland to the classes at the Colon School, not forgetting the incredible welcome of my host family. I am very satisfied with my stay, on a personal and professional level. The lessons were lively and dynamic, just like the teachers. Hamburg is a beautiful and lively metropolis and I had a great time there during those 6 months. I recommend studying German in this superb city to anyone who gets the chance.

I have found the tuition in the Colón Language Centre to be very beneficial to my learning experience. The tutors are very helpful and friendly, and the material was covered very thoroughly in class. I stayed in the school residence and enjoyed the benefit of having my room and the bathrooms and kitchen cleaned during the week. Although there are not many cooking facilities in the residence, there are many affordable cafés and restaurants within a short walking distance of the school. The school has an excellent location near the centre of Hamburg, meaning that shops and various modes of public transport are all within walking distance. I would recommend studying at the Colón Language Centre to anyone considering learning German in Germany.

Hamburg is a big city with great cultural diversity. At the Colon school, I got to know students of different nationalities, which helps make learning the language easier. The way the classes are organised, with plenty of time for interaction, enabled me to develop my speaking skills. The numerous excursions organised by the school gave me an opportunity to discover this multi-faceted city. Staying with a friendly host family was the cherry on the cake. If you want to learn German in the best conditions, Hamburg is definitely the best place to go.

I took a B2 course at Colon. The course was excellent and really fun. I stayed at the Colon residence. I loved this accommodation, above all because there was a friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, I did not take part in the many interesting excursions offered by Colon, and I really regret it.

My stay in Hamburg was terrific! The city is really interesting; it is bursting with cultural treasures and entertainment options. You can find everything you want here. It is a lively city with a varied layout. As far as I am concerned, I loved the districts of Altona and Sternschanze, because they have a character of their own.

As regards the school, my classes and my teachers were very good. Even though at the beginning, I found it a bit difficult to meet people because there is no student lounge.

I’m very satisfied with my German course as well as my accommodation. I’m staying in a shared apartment with a father and his 2 sons who live in Hamburg. This type of accommodation allows me to talk to my “roommates” in German very often and even if I prepare my own meals, I often have dinner with them. My courses are demanding and I have to study at home as well but I like the fact that I have two teachers per day and that each teacher concentrate on a special matter. The first teacher concentrates on grammar and the second one on conversation.
