I dreamt of discovering Sydney and I combined my passion for travelling with the improvement of the English language. I just loved these 3 weeks spent at Sydney’s English Language Company. The atmosphere is really nice, the quality of the classes is excellent, you are never bored and you make progress!! Everybody is very professional, very punctual and always listening to the students. Many services are offered at the school: help from an agency to extend the stay, weekly days out, various excursions (zoo, Sydney Opera House…) the school is very well located right in the centre of Sydney and Sydney is really a beautiful city. The Australians are lovely! I was delighted by the accommodation service. I had half board accommodation in a family, which allows you to be in total immersion to perfect the learning of the language. Great! I really appreciated the ESL service in Lyon, which totally fulfilled my expectations. The ability to listen and an excellent follow-up of my file! Thanks to Manon for her precious help. I will travel again with ESL, that’s for sure!

ELC is a very good school with skilled teachers. I met really nice people there and I hope to see them again in their respective countries. The atmosphere in my class is great; we improve our English while having fun.

I stayed at YHA Glebe for 7 weeks, the staff are friendly, the area is very peaceful, with a park and access to Sydney Bay less than 3 minutes’ walk away. The town centre is only 20 minutes away by bus and the area is well served, even at night (last bus at 4 am on weekends).

Sydney is beautiful. There is always something to do. The city is a bit huge, but everything is concentrated in the centre. Even areas on the outskirts are well connected by public transport and you can easily take the train to visit places farther away (like the Blue Mountains). Renting a car is not too expensive. Now I know what it is like to drive on the left!

I stayed in Australia for 7 weeks but didn’t take the time to travel outside of the Sydney area. I advise you to take at least one month after the course to travel. Even if you are alone, you will always find someone to travel with along the way.

Even if it is sometimes difficult to make the decision to travel to the other end of the world on your own, I strongly recommend doing it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the memories are intense!

This experience was very enriching for me. I stayed only two months but I can see my progress. I think coming to study at ELC was a good choice, the teachers are very dynamic, qualified and friendly, so the lessons are interesting. I lived with a home stay family only twenty minutes from the school. I was able to talk with my family in the evening and immerse myself in Australian culture. Sydney is a beautiful city that never sleeps. There is the business centre (CBD) where you can see thousands of penguins in suits and ties. Crazy evenings in Kings Cross and being in ‘Chinatown’ makes you almost believe you’re there! Sydney is a really great destination to learn English, especially if you love the sun, beach and surfing! I will always have good memories!

When I’m 18, I’m going halfway around the world!” Easy done. Spurred on by the curiosity to visit such a far-away country and by the desire to put myself on the line, to grow up, to learn, and perhaps, to know myself better, I decided to travel to the Land of Kangaroos for my language studies. Australia offers much more than a learning experience: it is a very clean and organised country, with friendly people and extraordinary landscapes! Thanks to its warm and sunny weather, you can make the most of every single day. Sydney is a very big city that offers any sort of entertainment. The school welcomes students from all over the world and it is very enriching to discover and to interact with different cultures. Classes at ELC are very interesting and well structured, the school staff is very helpful and every week we can take part to many inspiring extracurricular activities.

I’ve decided to change my accommodation and on the 8th of December I’m moving to a student house. I really enjoyed my stay with my host family: I met very nice and welcoming people, who invited me over for Christmas despite my relocation to another accommodation 20 days before Christmas. Now I am making the most of my weekends to discover the surrounding area of Sydney and next weekend I’m planning to visit the Blue Mountains with another girl who is also staying with my host family. In mid-January I’m travelling to Auckland to attend a 2-week standard course and I will stay in New Zealand until the end of February. ESL is assisting me in this process and I am really satisfied by its support and efficiency!

To end this wonderful experience with a bang, I’m going to meet my boyfriend at Fiji and together we will come back to Australia to visit the major cities and Uluru. Then we will have to say goodbye and go back home. I am sure this wonderful experience will open my eyes to the future and it will definitely help me to find “my way.

My name is Johan Droz. I am studying English at the English Language Company in the centre of Sidney. My course includes 3 months of General English and 3 months of preparation for the Cambridge exam. I decided to go abroad to learn English because I need it for work. A friend of mine, who travelled a lot, recommended Australia; I followed his advice and I don’t regret it! I chose to stay with a host family, as I think it’s the best way to improve my language skills. My host family is really nice and they live about 20 minutes away from the city centre by bus/metro. The school is great. Teachers are competent and know how to make lessons interesting. Classes are very international, so I met many people from around the world and discovered lots of new cultures. In addition to language classes, the school organises leisure activities such as museum tours, excursions and surf camps (Ripcurl Surfcamp). It’s been only one month since I left Switzerland, but my English has already improved a lot. Time goes very fast, I still have 5 months in Sidney but I don’t think I will be able to do everything I want to do.

My stay in Sidney was incredible! The city is huge, but easy to explore. You can really enjoy it! My host family and the people at school were all very nice to me. I made some really good friends and it was a great experience. Even though my stay was short, I had the time to meet lots of people and I also managed to go on a short trip (in Australia, distances are very big). I learned a lot; not only I improved my English skills, but I also discovered a new way of living. I loved the multicultural atmosphere. Now that I’m back in my home country, you can see I am really happy. I know Australia is far, but it’s really worth it. I will definitely go back one day!

I had been wondering for a long time whether I should undertake this long trip to Australia or not. In the end, I am very happy to have done it. Australia is beautiful and I felt at ease there immediately. I had a ten-week language course and in the end I derived a lot of pleasure from speaking English! Gone was the fear of making mistakes in a conversation! The language school helped me feel more confident language wise and at the same time, it gave the students important and useful advice about this great country that is Australia. The preparation and the organization provided by ESL in Hamburg were perfect. After my course, I traveled for 4 weeks by car from Sydney to Cairns. I discovered so many wonderful places and I am sure now that I will go once more on the big trip, so as to discover other aspects of the country!

As I am French, I easily got the working visa to go to Australia for one year. My main goal was to work there. Before leaving, I could speak a little bit of English, but that 3-month course I did in Sidney actually helped me getting fluent and finding the right contacts for the rest of my stay. I worked in different places, in the city as well as in the countryside, but I also took some time to travel in this huge and beautiful country.

My experience in Sydney was fantastic. I took a 6-week language course in an international school and discovered cultures that were totally new to me with the other students. I met people from Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe… I stayed at the school residence. With my flatmates, we shared unique moments, like a real family. I didn’t live very far from Manly, which was my favourite spot, so I spent much of my time on the beach, surfing or playing volleyball. The locals are welcoming and relaxed; they made me feel, not like a tourist, but like a real Australian girl. Thanks to this trip, I came back home fluent in English.

My language course in Sydney: one of the best experiences of my life! For me, the city of Sydney is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It offers the perfect balance between holiday and party. Beaches like Bondi or Manly are ideal to surf, lie in the sun and organise barbecues. During my course at the school, I significantly improved my English skills. I made great progress in grammar and I am now more confident speaking English. The ELC teachers were a great help: as well as being good at their job, they were friendly and helpful. I particularly liked the varied leisure activities offered by the school. Weekend trips, a surfing camp, dancing classes, sightseeing visits and, above all, many parties kept my language course exciting and interesting. I stayed in an ELC student house for a while. I had a great time there and I made many good friends, I never felt alone. I hope I’ll keep in touch with them in the future.

Sydney is a beautiful town where there’s a lot to do! Beach outings, museums visits, parks, monuments, excursions, etc. It is a magical town, where people are very welcoming and the atmosphere is buzzing!

The ELC school is very well located and all around you can find restaurants, shops, shopping centres, bars, metro/bus stations. The school in itself is very good, the lessons are taught in very good conditions and by great teachers. The school offers optional activities every week (some are free some are at an additional charge). A study room and a computer room are available to students during the school’s opening hours, which is very useful. The accommodation in the ELC residence was perfect! It is located 15 minutes’ walking distance from the school and it is close to Darling Harbour, so I could enjoy wonderful fireworks every Saturday if I walked to the harbour. Plenty of restaurants, nightclubs, bars as well as the Aquarium of Sydney or the Chinese Garden, are located close-by.

I had already been to Australia but I wanted to visit Sydney and as this destination was eligible for a scholarship, I quite naturally decided to go there.

When I arrived, I met my “Australian mother”, who was very friendly. She showed me around the house and told me to make myself comfortable. I took a shower and I went straight to bed because I had been travelling for two days already. Another girl, who attended the same school as me, was also staying at my host mother’s place. She took me to the school on the first day and told me where I could buy my bus pass. The school is great, even more beautiful than what I had imagined, and there were people from the whole world, including from the UAE, Venezuela, Italy, etc. The teachers are very friendly, they don’t have any weird accent and they are very helpful. Besides, there is a street in Sydney where there are many Spanish restaurants (Liverpool Street).

My stay went by really fast because I always had a lot to do. I visited museums, parks; I went to parties with people I had just met. In short: I fell in love with Sydney. I strongly recommend this city, there is no pollution here, the country scrupulously respects the Kyoto protocol and the urban transportation system is widely used.

I would not trade this experience for anything else in the world and I encourage everyone to travel to this absolutely amazing country waiting to be discovered!

Sydney is a fantastic city for an English course! The atmosphere in the city is thrilling and the nearby beaches are amazing. I really enjoyed staying at the ELC student House, where you can meet many people from all over the world. What’s more, it is very close to the school.
For me, ELC is one of the best language schools in Australia. From the first day onwards, I felt comfortable there. The staff is really friendly and always available. I also liked the Cambridge course: my teacher was great and the lessons were very interesting. I significantly improved my English.
My “Aussie” experience will remain one of the greatest things in my life, forever engraved on my memory! I can say that I am really happy I met such friendly people and made such rapid progress in English!

Before I left for my language course, I asked myself many questions. What city? What course? What accommodation option? After discussing it with my friends and with an ESL consultant, I chose Australia!
So I went to Sydney to take a 3-month “natural English” course at the ELC school. It was the first time I was actually happy to go to school in the morning, the lessons were very interesting, the teacher was exceptional and my classmates were great! Through the school, I met many people of different nationalities and from different backgrounds with whom I had a great time and I learned a lot…
Regarding accommodation, I stayed in a student residence for a month, and once again it was great! As soon as I arrived, I met my roommates, who were of different nationalities, and I immediately felt comfortable because, even though we all had a different level of English, we could understand each other very well.
In the student residence, I learnt not to be embarrassed when speaking English because all of the students there went to the same school as me and attended the same type of courses as me.
About Sydney… The city is just huge! There are so many things to do and see that I never got bored! There are students all over the place, you meet lots of people everywhere and it is a great place for going out!

In the school, the CAE preparation courses were challenging, the teachers were very good, the atmosphere excellent, and the students came from the whole world. Staying with a host family is really the best way to be sure to speak English and improve your skills, since you can talk about everything, otherwise they were very friendly so I felt like at home. Sydney, the best spot ever, is a bustling city, there is always something to see, do, or places to visit whether during the week or in the weekend, different neighbourhoods with different cultures, many beaches located only 30 minutes away from the town centre.
