Gap Year Abroad (2+ Months)

A gap year with ESL can be from 2 months to as long as you want, but if you're going for the full Academic Year Abroad experience, you can choose between 6, 9, or 11 months, depending on how much time you have. If you choose an Academic Year abroad, you’ll need to stay within our network of applicable schools, but with destinations in Ireland, the UK, the USA, and Canada, we’re sure you’ll find the combination of cities that works for you.

Visa requirements depend on your destination, the length of your stay, and your nationality, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer. The good news? In general, most of our programmes will let you start at any language level, from “Donde esta la bilioteca?” to just-below-fluent. However, with a couple of the more advanced Academic Year Abroad programmes (University and Professional Preparation), you’ll need at least a B2 level before starting.

If your goals are a little higher than your current level, that’s okay! It only means you’ll need to take a Language and Culture Academic year first to help you get to the B2 level.
