Set in a magnificent Georgian building, our partner school, like the city of Liverpool itself, is proud of its welcoming atmosphere where you can quickly make friends and feel right at home. The centre has 26 classrooms, most with interactive whiteboards. After classes, socialise with the other students in the school’s café, in the common room or the adjacent garden with its lovely patio. There are 2 study rooms and a library where you can study and practise your English. Liverpool’s vibrant university district is on your doorstep, with Albert Dock and the city centre just a short walk away. This is your chance to rapidly improve your English in a relaxed atmosphere, in a city overflowing with culture, nightlife and personality.

Note: In July and August, some classes take place at John Moores University, just 5 minutes on foot away.

Olivier Robert
LSE, Liverpool
Duration: 3 weeks

I have enjoyed my time here at The Liverpool School of English, it has been a very good experience for me. I have enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and practicing my English with them during lunch times and activities on the Social Programme. When I started at The Liverpool School of English three weeks ago I could speak little English just “My name is …” and “I live in …”, now I can have a conversation and I understand everything you are saying and asking me so I am very happy. Liverpool is a city with friendly people and lots of different nationalities, I love it. I would recommend Liverpool as a city to visit and The Liverpool School of English as a place to improve your English, I am pleased.

As a great football fan, going to Liverpool for three months was like a dream to me, as for me, Liverpool was mainly associated with Anfield and the Reds. Much to my surprise, I discovered that, even though football is very important there, Liverpool is also a beautiful and small city, unlike London or Manchester for instance. People here are very friendly and the nightlife is absolutely crazy. Besides, there are many opportunities for shopping and at definitely cheaper prices than in Switzerland. The school is also very nice and most of the teachers are very competent. So yes, I recommend Liverpool, it is a little heaven for me!

For all football fans, Liverpool is a great city! You can attend football matches and the atmosphere is really great! It is also a festive town with many pubs and night clubs and the cost of living there is really cheap! At the school, the teachers and staff are very competent and activities are offered almost everyday. I really enjoyed staying with a host family as I could speak to them and improve my English speaking skills. I recommend Liverpool to anyone looking for a city that combines vibrant nightlife and sports activities!

Host family
One of the best ways to immerse yourself in English culture is to stay with a host family. This will encourage you to practise your English daily outside the classroom in a relaxed, motivating environment. Host families are carefully selected by the school and generally live around 20-30 minutes from the language school by public transport. You will stay in a single room with half-board (full board on Sundays).

Liverpool is known throughout the UK for its energy. This manifests itself in an exceptional music scene, where you can catch a first-class band or DJ any night of the week. It manifests itself in two of the best-supported football clubs in the country, and the enthusiasm of their fans. It manifests itself in a thriving arts scene and the booming creative industries that come with it. And then there are the serene beaches just a short walk or bike ride away along the coast, the rolling green countryside and superb golf courses. Weekends are your opportunity to discover the surrounding area, taking in the cities of Chester and Manchester and many other attractions in England’s Northwest and nearby Wales.
