Since I finished my studies at university I felt the need to travel and learn a new language. With this idea on my mind I started looking for destinations and I realized that I’d make the right choice if I turn to a specialist agency. That was how I found ESL – Language studies abroad and my experience began there. With the advice of my language travel consultant, I chose Brisbane, Australia to take a general English course for 24 weeks at Shafston International College. This school offers large facilities, green spaces with spectacular views of the river that crosses the city and native teachers with years of experience in language teaching. Besides, the school offers activities that allow students to interact and immerse in Australian daily culture. I had the opportunity to live with an aussie family which gave me confidence at my arrival; they were truly kind and welcomed me as a new member of the family. I feel satisfied with the decision that I made, because Brisbane is a very organized city with good public transportation, the weather is perfect and the best of all, is that the beach is only an hour distance by train. Today, I’m fluent in English and though I’d like to tell you all the experiences that I lived there, I don’t think that I’d finish! I can tell you that it’s a new experience to meet people from all over the world and learn about their cultures. For those who are thinking of learning or improving a new language, I recommend you make the decision of traveling and immersing in the culture, because this will allow you to learn and live new experiences.

I decided to study in Brisbane, Australia, for 6 months. Six months that I will never forget! I met many people from all over the world and discovered many new cultures. I studied at the Shafston College, a very good school with excellent teachers. Every day, the school organized some activities (tennis, card games, bowling, swimming pool, visit the cities around Brisbane…). I lived with an Australian family, so I could practice my English with them. I recommend staying with a host family, as I think it’s the best way to improve your language skills and discover the city and the country. Brisbane is a beautiful, calm city, with nice beaches where you can enjoy the sun and many parks where you can do BBQs. Furthermore, the city is a good starting point if you want to visit the cities in the surroundings: Byron Bay, Sunshine Coast, Surfers Paradise, etc... This trip was incredible and I strongly recommend it.

I chose to go to Shafton College in Brisbane and this experience will always be among my best memories! The school was well located; you have to take the ferry (CityCat) to reach the city centre, which is very pleasant. Teachers are really nice and the school staff is extremely helpful. Brisbane is pretty big, but it’s quite easy to get your bearings; getting bored is basically impossible, between the shopping on Queen Street and the BBQs in the parks! Every weekend I tried to discover the cities in the surroundings, like Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise… The weather was perfect and I made many good friends. I hope I will stay in touch with them! Thank you again to the ESL team for this unforgettable experience!

I’m very happy here. I chose Shafston College because of the great nationality mix, the unique riverside location and on campus Mansions. I’m currently completing a Preparation program to sit the Cambridge FCE exam. I initially enrolled for General English but after 4 weeks I was able to change to Cambridge which was the best choice. The teachers are also excellent. They keep the lessons interesting with a variety of teaching methods and are very good at explaining difficult concepts. All the staff of the college is very friendly and helpful. It is also good to be able to access the free wireless internet around the campus. I keep in contact with family and friends via Skype and despite the time difference between Australia and Switzerland I am easily able to keep in regular contact. Brisbane is a fun city. Of course there is an entertaining nightlife and fun activities. However, what is great about the Brisbane is its weather and location. It is easy to travel to some great places around it on the weekends. This includes: Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast (Noosa), Fraser Island, Moreton Island - or if you are prepared to travel a little further, the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef. I intend to extend my study at Shafston College and continue enjoying the campus life. One of my friends recommended me ESL–Séjours Linguistiques and I have to tell they provided an excellent and quick service. They have a great team with good costumer service. I can just recommend to anyone want to come to Australia.

When I started checking all the different language stay formulas, I soon realized that ESL Panama was the best option for me. They assisted me since the beginning; they helped me finding the perfect destination, considering all my needs. They guided me during my trip and helped me getting my Visa through the admin process for Venezuelan people like me (at the CADIVI). Despite the distance between Venezuela and Panama, ESL services and availability was perfect. I have never see anything like that before.

Here in Brisbane everything is great: the city, the student residence, the school, teachers… It has been an unforgettable experience that I will surely try to repeat in the future!

I chose Brisbane in Australia because I wanted to see something very different from Switzerland. Shafston College is a big school on the Brisbane River’s bank, not far from the city centre. Teachers are dynamic and most of them are very caring. Brisbane is a fantastic city with many things to do and plenty of nightlife options. It’s also one of the safest and cleanest cities I have ever been to. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life and I met people from all over the world!

I have commenced my study on the 16th January. I initially enrolled for General English but after 5 weeks I joined to Open First Certificate of Cambridge. I sat for the exam which was quite challenging however I feel that I did my best for passing it. I really like my teacher, Paul, who is just excellent. I could see his experience in teaching as he always paid attention to all of us in the classroom. If I couldn’t understand something he explained me so patiently. Everyone in the college is very friendly and helpful. I especially like the riverfront location of the campus. It is very convenient to use the ferry to the city and the next ferry station is only 2 minutes walk from the campus. Everything you need is very close to the school, including: IGA supermarket, restaurants, cafes, Chemist, and many beautiful parks where we can play soccer. My host family is very nice and I am very comfortable around them! We have the same interest in soccer so they took me on the weekend to the nearest park to play. It is also good to be able to use free wireless internet around the campus. I also used the library for extra Cambridge learning material to improve my vocabulary for the exam. The activity centre is also very useful with a friendly staff who can organize a fantastic weekend. Brisbane is a great city. Of course the city beach is just amazing and there is an entertaining nightlife and fun activities. I have travelled along the east coast of QLD. This includes: Byron Bay, Sunshine Coast (Noosa), Brisbane, Gold Coast. After I finish my study at Shafston I intend to travel a bit more. I would definitely come back here for holidays as there are so many things to do in this beautiful place!

I always wanted to go to Australia for a language stay and then take the opportunity to visit the country. I decided to go to Brisbane because of the good weather, the proximity to the coast and all the opportunities that the city offers. ESL recommended the Shafston International College, which is ideally located close to the city centre and public transports. The school is literally on the Brisbane River’s bank, so the view is amazing. Classes are mixed and this helps meeting people from all over the world and practise the language with them. Teachers are very helpful and competent; they are always available when students have doubts. I live 20 minutes away, in a very nice family.

Bye bye from Australia!

I really enjoyed my time at Shafston Brisbane. My English improved a lot because I had excellent teachers and the atmosphere at the school was very pleasant. At the residence too, I felt very comfortable. I met tons of nice people with whom I spent a lot of time outside of class. My language course was a truly memorable experience which changed my life. I can only recommend this language school and I would love to go back to Brisbane one day!

I am from a small city in Germany therefore living in Brisbane is a wonderful experience. I came to Australia to improve my English preparing for my university studies and to explore interesting places. I really appreciate the beautiful environment of Shafston and the weather conditions of Brisbane. The magnificent riverfront campus is only 5 minutes from the city centre with public transport, and I love to travel with the unique “City Cat” on the Brisbane River. Studying in small classes and with friendly, helpful teachers, it is more than I expected.
