My experience in Belfast has been full of new friends of different nationalities and amazing landscapes. Since I arrived in the city, the staff at the International House has made me feel right at home. I’ve got a lot of help and interest in the development of the app that I won the Sustainable Development in Belfast contest with. The IH team and all the teachers have supported me by proposing new ideas so that the project would be a total success. Without a doubt, my experience up to today in Belfast has been unforgettable. Developing our EcoApp here has allowed me to learn a lot about the country’s history and Irish culture.

I chose Belfast for the course + internship programme offered by ESL. I had a few doubts when I left, because of Northern Ireland’s difficult history, but I quickly forgot about them when I arrived! Belfast is a lively city, where you can meet new people (it’s not a legend, Irish people really are welcoming!) and do cultural activities (museums…and pubs!) as well as sports ones, like hiking on the hills of West Belfast. The most beautiful landscapes are on the north coast: I walked on the Giant's Causeway’s basalt columns, crossed the suspended bridge of Carrick-a-rede, visited the small port of Ballintoy, and much more! As for the school, I was very satisfied of my 4-week course with amazing teachers! I stayed in an apartment next to the school – literally 2 minutes away. It was well equipped and I will always cherish the memories of the time I spent with the other students. Another great advantage: in 5 months, I was always the only French person, which was great because I was forced to speak English all the time!

As for the internship – I was very happy about it. I worked in an interesting company, in an industry that is related to my studies, and my colleagues we absolutely amazing. The proof? At the end of the internship, I was offered a full-time position!

Thank you again!

Belfast is the ideal destination if you want to learn English whilst having fun!
The school is located in the heart of the university area, only a 10-minute walk to the city centre. Teachers are great and encourage discussion. The school staff is very helpful and caring. Each day, the different activities organised by the school allow you to meet new people and practise the language. The strong point of the school is the proximity of the shared apartments; they are only 1 minute away from the school and there are very few French speakers! I recommend going for a pint in one of the multiple pubs; you will have the chance to listen to Irish music and chat with the locals. The accent is not easy, but it’s much better after a pint of Guinness! I also recommend visiting the Giant's Causeway and the North Coast. It’s wonderful, especially on a sunny day! Two weeks was definitely too short because Belfast is an amazing city; I highly recommend this destination!

My name is Francisco and I went on a language trip to Belfast. I really like the city, as it’s quiet but offers many things to do (cultural tours, parks, sports,…). After class, on the way back to the residence, I walk through the botanical gardens, stop at the Natural History Museum and eat in one of the cheap restaurants. In the evening, you can have a beer in one of the great Irish pubs and play a game of pool.

I really like the residence. Rooms are confortable and I met plenty of international people. The school is well organised. Classrooms are very bright and groups are small, so lessons can be more personalised and interactive. My two teachers are very professional and nice; they do all they can to make the courses understandable. I realised I make progress every week, so I am very satisfied with my stay in Belfast.

Here I am, at the end of my 3-month internship. It went fast… too fast!
Belfast is a nice city and its inhabitants are warm and friendly. There are plenty of things to do, such as museums and pubs (some of them are really amazing), where you can listen to Irish music and drink Guinness. The city offers a good bus and train network, so you can easily reach the wonderful coast. My stay was very nice; the school staff and the teachers were very welcoming and organised interesting activities in the afternoon. I started with no knowledge of English and now I can understand AND speak!

I chose Belfast because I was very intrigued by this small and detached part of the United Kingdom. The beauty of its enchanted landscapes - almost fairy! - did not disappoint me. The beautiful walks are uncountable, and the nightlife is completely different from what we are used to. Irish people are warm and nice; they are always up for chatting and sharing a pint of beer (Guinness, usually). As for the activity programme – there is a great choice: the Giant's Causeway, the multiple castles, the city hall and the different cities in proximity, such as Dublin, Londonderry or Galway. The cost of living is definitely cheaper than in Switzerland: renting a car and go on an excursion with other students is a great and affordable experience. The school is located in a quiet area full of students, as the Queen University is close-by. Courses are diversified and teachers use interactive teaching methods to make lessons more interesting; they are excellent, highly qualified and understanding. The only remark I can make is that I was not very happy about the students’ distribution among the different levels, but then I discussed the issue and found a solution.

My stay wouldn’t have been the same without my wonderful host family. They were exceptionally welcoming and included me in their daily life. I highly recommend Belfast; I have already booked my next holiday there!

My 5-month stay in Belfast was absolutely great. Belfast is a pleasant city and its inhabitants are very friendly. The landscapes in Northern Ireland and Ireland are breathtaking! I had the chance to visit many different places, such as the Giant's Causeway, the suspended bridge of Carrick-a-rede and the cliffs of Moher. And I was lucky enough to experience St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin – I will never forget it!

At school, supervisors, teachers and students warmly welcomed me. My experience was incredible! I met people with the most different backgrounds and I am still in touch with them. I lived in a cosy and well-equipped apartment, only 2 minutes from the school, and the city centre was 10 minutes away. My language stay in Belfast was great, I met many interesting people and – of course – I significantly improved my English level!

I chose to come to Ireland and especially to Belfast because I love irish music and I always dreamt of seeing the Irish countryside with its beautiful green hills. Belfast is a medium size city. You can get around very easily on foot and most things are within walking distance. The school apartments are great and very near the school. The history of this city is perhaps troubled but also very interesting. One of the first things you will realize is that the Irish are very friendly, they will always help you and of course, drink a guiness (or two) with you. The school is also very friendly with its lovely teachers who will laugh with you and make learning English fun. Classes are full of interesting activities, so that learning English is not a punishment but a pleasure ! The countryside is amazing and the cottages are very nice. In Ireland, there are also lots of beautiful old houses and castles that will remind you of the age of knights. If you travel around the country you should take the costal road because the landscape is simply wonderful. Belfast is a beautiful city with the River Lagan flowing through the town and its victorian buildings. Finally, I really enjoyed learning English in Belfast. I definitely want to come back here again, maybe for my next holiday !
