Japanese Courses in Nagoya: Japan Without the Tourist Filter

Japan's fourth-largest city sits at the centre of the country in every way: geographically, economically, and culturally. This is where kishimen noodles are eaten for breakfast at the station, and where Nagoya Castle still dominates the skyline. The backstreets of Osu Kanon fill up every weekend with locals who have no interest in performing for visitors.

  • Off the beaten track but just 40 minutes from Kyoto and 2 hours from Tokyo

  • Combine your course with fun extras to delve into Japanese culture

  • Benefit from over 30 years of experience helping students just like you!

Living and Learning in Nagoya

You'll spend your first morning working out the subway system. By the end of your first week, you'll have a favourite ramen spot, a transport card, and at least one plan to jump on the Shinkansen to Kyoto for the weekend.

How Transport Works While Studying Abroad in Nagoya

The city's subway network covers the major districts clearly and reliably, with signs in both Japanese and English throughout (so you get immersion, with a safety net!). The local IC card, Manaca, works across the subway and all buses, so you don’t need anything else. The Shinkansen connects Nagoya to Tokyo in under two hours and to Osaka or Kyoto in around 50 minutes.

Accommodation in Nagoya

How you live in Nagoya shapes the experience as much as the classroom does. Compare homestays and private apartments for your stay in Nagoya to decide which suits you best. Homestays place you directly inside Japanese daily life, while Private apartments give you the freedom to live at your own pace in one of Japan's most liveable cities.

Attractions in Nagoya

Nagoya Castle, reconstructed after the Second World War, sits at the city's historical core. The Atsuta Shrine, one of the most sacred Shinto sites in Japan, draws locals on weekends. Then there's the food. Miso katsu, hitsumabushi eel rice, and tebasaki chicken wings aren’t variations on dishes you already know. Nagoya invented them, and nowhere else does them better.

Urban, convenient, and relentlessly alive. This is where the department stores, the best ramen shops, and the after-class social life are.
